New clothes, sweets, crackers. Diwali is a time of joy and celebration. But there are many who aren't fortunate enough. For the poor, buying things during festivals can be nothing but a far fetched dream. We at AASRA believe that there's no greater joy than the joy of serving the poor and the less fortunate ones. Each year, we create employment opportunities for dozens of poor women during Diwali, so that they have enough money to celebrate the festival of lights with their families. DIYA PROJECT is our greatest and most awaited project every year, for which every volunteer of AASRA puts in a lot of effort (and love). We buy diyas from a wholesale seller, and buy decorative items such as glitter powder, paints etc. We go to three workplaces and ask the women there to decorate these Diyas for us. SECTOR-21 AASRA-  AN EPITOME OF MAGNANIMITY     There is no higher religion than human service. To work for the common good is the greatest creed.                                                                                                   – Woodrow Wilson       Each time a man stands up for an ideal, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope and those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance. So did AASRA, established in the year 2005 by a group of five young enthusiasts, this club congregated with time, to become a huge family of hundreds of students and an extensive alumni network. It was set in motion with a maxim to reach out to the underprivileged sections of the society, providing educational opportunities to students and employment opportunities to the elders. What they feel about us. I've translated the above from Oriya to English for your easier understanding of it.                   " My self Durga Hansdah. i am in class 9th. I stay in Rourkela sishubhawan. My parents are not alive, I'm an orphan. Here all of us stay together, happily. NIT brothers and sisters come three days in a week. They teach us on Wednesday and Saturday. On Sundays, we play, sing, dance and have a lot of fun together. They visit us in the evenings, from 5 pm to 8 pm. One thing I feel that I always miss my Papa and this is the reason, maximum time i sit alone and remain silent.. When Didis and Bhaiyas come from NIT, I feel like my parents are with me and I forget everything. It makes me really happy. They also come in festivals like Rakhi and Ganesh puja. I dont have sister, but Didis have never given us a chance to feel it.
