Blood Donation with Shraddha

What is the most important thing you did today? Not many can claim to have saved a life. What if I told you it just takes an hour. Yes, of course, I am talking about blood donation. It is such a noble thing to do, yet so easy.

Contributing to this cause, AASRA in association with SHRADDHA FOUNDATION and SAMBAD- AMA ODISHA organized a blood donation camp at the CULTURAL ACADEMY, SECTOR 5 on 17th March 2019. It was subject to voluntary participation and was open to all. The drive achieved it’s intended success as 31 units of blood were collected, contributed by 30 donors. Here is how the event folded out.

First up, volunteers from AASRA arrived at the CULTURAL ACADEMY by 9 A.M. to make sure the arrangements were all in place. They helped in the preparations as they were joined at the location by representatives of Rourkela Blood Bank. Donors started to come by 10 A.M. More  donors and volunteers from NITR arrived at 10.30 A.M. prior to donation the donors were counselled and went though a primary health check up as their eligibility and suitability was confirmed. A very generous weather ensured the blood donation room remained cool and the process went on without hindrance. Every donor took rest for 20 minutes after blood donation and were then served a plate full of snacks which included egg, bananas, biscuit, juices and water. Well, I don’t know if the first time donors loved donating blood but the snacks ensured they remain interested the next time a blood donation camp comes around.

Deserving special mention here is Nikesh Prashad who completed his 99th blood donation that day. A man of true generosity, he said “There is nothing more noble than donating blood. Me and my family consider it our duty to donate blood. I will continue donating blood till  I am 65 years of age.” in presence of his daughter Nikita Choudhary.

As the camp drew to a close SAMBAD conducted a photo session that included all the dignitaries, Aasrites, Shradha foundation, Sambad, the volunteers and  the donors. Well, that's precisely everyone to whom the event owes its success. The event came to its conclusion at 1:30 P.M.

Despite having made rapid progress in this sector, India still falls short by about 2 million units of blood every year. Events like these ensure we tread towards addressing this problem. Are you ready to take forward this drive ? BECAUSE, THEY NEED US
