Jagda: Of Little Hearts and Mighty Dreams

A Family, Together Forever As cliched as it sounds, I am still honestly relieved that we are done with 2020 now. Yes, I know it’s just a change in a single digit, and globally the situation remains roughly the same but still. It’s only two months into 2021, and India, especially, seems to be in a much better place in terms of the pandemic. AASRA isn’t to be left behind then. We have had the integration of new inductees and foundation day celebration to begin the year with. Hopefully, we will have much more to come. All optimism around the new year aside, 2020 was definitely a hard year for us. For a club that works locally, this situation presented unprecedented challenges. But it’s not in AASRA’s culture to give up and we continued offering our services wherever possible. One of the workplaces where the teaching-learning process continued throughout the year is Jagda.  We began teaching online in July and thanks to the dedicated efforts of the members, we are still going strong.   Khalsa- For the Early Buds to Blossom           Here we are, at the end of this session, hoping for the revival of our busy lives. This year has brought each one of us into dire straits. AASRA, the social service club, established in the year 2005, has been working tirelessly for the upliftment of the underprivileged children even in these difficult times. KHALSA is one of such workplaces of AASRA where all the members are devoted and diligent.           Khalsa emerged as a workplace in the year 2015. It is around 7.3 km from NIT, Rourkela. Having started with very few members and children, this workplace has now become more like a family of nearly 35 children who are mentored by 20 members. We, all the members and children as a unit, have been overcoming all the challenges and obstacles in our path and will continue to do so. When on campus, all members visit this abode four days a week as per the given time slots. With the able guidance of our Captain (Ayush)and Vice-Captain(Uday)

OSAP-Nourishing minds, Shaping characters  “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime  “  -Maimonides                  AASRA, a non-profit organisation started by a group of students of NIT Rourkela in the year 2005, understands the magnanimity of these lines and strives to uplift and reach out to the underprivileged sections of the society, providing educational background to the children and employment opportunities to the adults. Presently, the AASRA family has grown enormously and has spread its wings of service over seven workplaces and OSAP is one of them.             OSAP  is one of the oldest workplaces of Aasra started during the initial days of Aasra and is around 6-7km away from the NITR campus. Surrounded by beautiful mountains and scenery, it has a peaceful village atmosphere. The workplace is named for its location in Odisha Special Armed Police colony. All the OSAP workplace lands come under the forest department,

Sector 2 AASRA: A Beacon Of Hope

Sector 2 AASRA: A Beacon Of Hope Aasra, the social service club of NIT Rourkela, has been around for many years now. Established on the 26th of January in 2005, the organization has touched the hearts of many and has striven tirelessly to fulfil its objective of uplifting the underprivileged section BECAUSE THEY NEED US. At present, there are 8 workplaces and Sector-2 is one of them. Sector-2 workplace was established in 2014 by AASRA with the help of Father Benny (chairperson of CWS hospital).  It is the workplace that is closest in distance to NIT Rourkela. Having started off with around 15 kids, the workplace struggled a lot in handling the kids. Initially, Sector-2 was the only workplace which had daily visits excluding Sunday. Problems cropped up after the initial semester where many members were inactive. Although, the positive side to this was that the bonding between the active members and the kids became very strong. The parents were also hesitant because of
